Downtown Winter Blues Festival, 2010

There’s a new event in Downtown Findlay, and it’s going to be hot! Introducing the “Downtown Findlay Winter Blues Festival,” an evening of blues music, ice sculptures, specialty beers and a great time! Don’t worry about the cold! A heated tent will be provided.  Why? Because, we all need a reason to get out in the middle of winter and hear some great music!

The event will take place on Sat., Feb. 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 11 p.m on E. Crawford St. with parking available in the Crawford St. parking garage. Entry is $5. “Ice Creations” will provide ice sculpture demonstrations. Local blues band “The Millstream Mojo Band” featuring will start at 6 p.m. Members of the band include Greg Neat, Rob Tompkins, Terry McClanahan, David Dudley, Dave Phillips and Reg Routson. Also performing will be Josh Garrett & The Bottomline, from Louisiana.

Headlining the concert will be the Jimi Vincent Band. Formed in 1989, The Jimi Vincent Band plays rockin' blues.  They have opened shows for headliners Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, Keb Mo and John Lee Hooker Jr.  They have also opened for BlueOyster Cult, Foghat, Mark Farner, Guy Davis, Travis Tritt, Emmylou Harris, and many others. The Jimi Vincent Band has performed three times at the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis Tennessee.  The band has released its newest CD, "Been There, Done That... Won't Do That Again.”  It has a mix of original music and classic blues selections.

The Downtown Winter Blues Festival is being coordinated by Waldo Pepper’s, Red Tornado Art Productions and the Findlay Hancock County Convention & Visitors Bureau as a fundraiser for non-profit organization The Hancock County Center for Safe and Healthy Children. The Center’s mission is to coordinate the investigation, prosecution, treatment and prevention of child sexual abuse into a unified system. The goal of the Center for Safe and Healthy children is to minimize trauma to the child through a multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with child sexual abuse.

“The Center for Safe and Healthy Children just moved into a downtown office, and we thought this event would be a great way to welcome them to the downtown neighborhood. It is also a great cause and a way to make a difference in the lives of sexually abused children,” said Mike Miller, owner of Waldo Pepper’s. For more information call Waldo Pepper’s at 419-422-7000.
